First-Gen Zone Conference

Join us

The First-Gen Zone Conference aims to celebrate and amplify the voices of
first-generation students by bringing together a diverse group of attendees, including faculty, staff, and most importantly, the brilliant first-generation students themselves.

Our goal is to shed light on the unique strengths, accomplishments, and unique barriers these students face.

Submit your proposal

We are looking for engaging and thought-provoking workshops and lightning talks that highlight the diversity of first-generation college students, their stories and the unique ways to support them. Whether you are a current first-generation undergraduate or graduate student, staff member or faculty, we welcome your proposals. Proposal submissions are open to current students, ASU staff and faculty, and non-ASU community partners.

What to expect

Making an impact

The conference will offer research-based information, tangible tips and actionable steps to faculty, staff, and community members who want to enhance their skill set in support of the success of first-generation students.

Student presentations

We provide a stage for first-generation students to share their inspiring stories, achievements, and perspectives. They play a pivotal role in helping our staff and faculty better understand the barriers they face and resilience they demonstrate.

Keynote Speaker

We are honored to announce Alonzo Jones as this year’s keynote speaker. Known for his expertise in Male Development, Black History Month, Cultural Greek Organizations, and Student Identity, AJ has worked with schools, athletic programs, the NFL, and more. He currently serves as Associate Athletic Director for Championship Life at Arizona State University.
